| Account Executive - PR Account Executives and Consultants Areas of responsibility and authority Both consultants and account executives are responsible for day-to-day handling of accounts assigned to them and for initiating activities outlines in the client’s PR programme. The main difference between consultants and A/Es is in the responsibilities and authority given to each. Responsibilities Day-to-day management of allocated accounts according to agreed programme and scope of work Familiarise and be accustomed to media needs, wants and irks. Building close rapport with the media and build the media network as well as contacts. A friendly call or email to the journalists and editors from time to time. Fully familiarise oneself with client’s business and the related industry, client contacts, and clients' internal communications procedures and processes Fully familiarise oneself with ThinkerBox office procedures, client servicing standards, client report and budget procedures. Keeping senior consultants and/or group directors up to date on account progress, activities, difficulties. Monitoring newspaper AND magazines, particularly trade/specialist publications relevant to clients’ business. Advising senior consultants and/or group directors well in advance of ALL client meetings. Keeping written records of ALL client meetings and phone calls of importance. Copying senior consultants and group directors on minutes, reports, releases, significant correspondence and production quotes and copy. Ensure that all written materials to be submitted to client are accurate, error-free, and approved by a consultant or director in charge of that account. Proof-reading THOROUGHLY all written material (NB: consultants are responsible for checking the style, tone and content of all releases and significant correspondence - they should not have to double check numbers and spelling of names, etc). Compiling activity and internal reports at month’s end. Providing on-going creative input into existing client programmes. Receiving from client, and providing the CDS department with detailed briefs for any production work. Brief third parties e.g. collateral designers, photographers, event companies etc. fully and clearly on clients’ requirements and preferences Creative/Strategic Inputs Contribute creative and strategic inputs for client’s PR programmes, proposals and at client meetings. Provide strategic counsel and advice to clients. Proactively alert clients or senior consultants on issues and events that will have an impact on client business or PR programme. Advice and alert consultants or account directors to emerging client issues e.g. budget, personnel etc. Contribute to business development pitches particularly in research and intelligence gathering. Business Development Provide business development leads if you come across them. Identify and develop new business opportunities from existing clients. Contribute in business development pitches and undertake research or intelligence gathering work. Additional responsibilities - Consultants As required, familiarizing clients with public relations and the functions of a public relations agency. Advising clients on what they NEED (which might be very different from what they think they want). Formulating own solutions to problems and presenting options to senior consultants for review. Checking details of invoices before final review by group directors. Drafting yearly reviews and programmes for the coming year for each account. Authority - Consultants and A/Es To make recommendations to senior consultants and group directors on client activities. Additional authority - Consultants To make firm recommendations to clients even when those recommendations may be contrary to a client’s intended course of action. To make recommendations to senior consultants and/or group directors on amending existing client programmes. Reporting to: Consultant/Senior Consultant and/or Group Practice Director | |
